Here’s what you need to know:
- Date: November 27
- Announced by: FDA on November 29
- Company: 4Earth Farms
- Products: Organic Vegetable Medley, Conventional Vegetable Medley, Organic Whole Carrots
- Issue: Potential contamination with Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (E. coli) O121:H19

What happened?
4Earth Farms is pulling multiple products from shelves after they found out that the carrots used in their veggie medleys and organic carrots could be tainted with a potentially harmful strain of E. coli—specifically, E. coli O121:H19. The company issued the recall after a heads-up from Grimmway Farms, who reported that some of their carrots used in 4Earth Farms’ products could be contaminated. Yes, it has to do with Grimmway Farms again. The Organic and Conventional Vegetable Medleys, and Organic Whole Carrots subject to recall by 4Earth Farms were distributed to the following states: New Hampshire, Florida, California, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Illinois, and Colorado, through both retail stores and distributors.
What caused the issue?
E. coli O121:H19 is a bacteria that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, elderly people, and those with a weakened immune system. Some infections can cause severe bloody diarrhea conditions, such as a hemolytic uremic syndrome, or the development of high blood pressure, chronic kidney disease, and neurologic problems. Symptoms include severe stomach cramps, diarrhea, fever, nausea, and/or vomiting. The incubation period for E. coli O121:H19 in humans can range from 24 hours to as much as ten days. The average incubation period is 3 to 4 days. No illnesses have been reported so far.

Behind the brand
4Earth Farms is a certified woman-owned company founded in 1993. They have built their business on a simple idea: provide superior customer service and high-quality and consistent produce year-round. Over the years, their guiding principles have grown with them: rapid innovation that responds to their customers’ needs, sustainable practices, and measurable stewardship at every level. This particular recall has nothing to do with the company itself but with their carrot supplier. This past November 16th, Grimmway Farms, the carrot supplier to multiple brands like Good & Gather, Trader Joe’s, Simple Truth, and more, issued a recall for their organic carrots due to E. coli. Since its announcement, this recall has taken many brands of the shelves and apparently, 4Earth Farms is not getting away from it either.
Ensuring safe eats!
This recall isn’t just about one company — it’s about keeping the industry in check. Every time a company recalls a product, it reinforces the importance of food safety protocols in food production. Manufacturers should test regularly for harmful bacteria, maintain clean processing facilities, and take quick action if any contamination is detected.
“A product recall is not just about addressing an issue—it’s about demonstrating accountability. Acting quickly and transparently not only protects consumers but also builds long-term trust in your brand.” Eran Mizrahi, Source86’ CEO
