The recall that started it all

You may recall that earlier this year, Boar’s Head made headlines for a significant recall. On July 26th, the company voluntarily pulled over 7 million pounds of its products from store shelves due to contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, a bacteria that can cause serious illness, particularly for pregnant women, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. This recall affected 19 states and had approximately 61 victims confirmed, 60 out of those had to be hospitalized and unfortunately, 10 deaths were confirmed. This was a wake-up call for everyone involved. Boar’s Head’s response to this recall was swift and thorough, and the company immediately initiated a comprehensive investigation and took action. Since then, Boar’s Head has doubled down on its commitment to food safety, enhancing its quality assurance processes and building this new Food Safety page as a testament to their ongoing efforts.
Why does this matter?
In an industry where food recalls are not uncommon, Boar’s Head’s proactive approach to food safety is a model for other companies to follow. With an increased focus on transparency and consumer confidence, the brand’s new platform serves as a reminder that food safety is not just a regulatory requirement—it’s a critical element of building trust with customers. And while incidents can happen, taking action and measures for the future is crucial. You gotta learn from your mistakes, you know? What does this mean for consumers? For consumers, this is a win. It’s reassuring to know that companies like Boar’s Head are committed to food safety at every stage of production. As we continue to navigate a world where foodborne illness can spread quickly, Boar’s Head’s investment in safety technologies, third-party inspections, and consumer education through their new webpage ensures that they’re ahead of the game.
