In some delicious news, Ferrero Rocher has just launched a brand-new chocolate bar. Inspired by the original Ferrero Rocher pralines, the new Ferrero Rocher Dark Hazelnut and Crunchy Salted Caramel bars combine two beloved flavors into one – a creamy filling with crunchy hazelnut pieces and caramel, balanced with a delicate sprinkle of sea salt, all wrapped in a 55% cocoa dark chocolate shell. Hailing back to the company’s roots, each bar is perfectly wrapped in the signature Ferrero gold foil – a premium detail that makes it the perfect gift.
For the launch, Ferrero has partnered with the StoryGraph reading tracker app for the “Reading is a Treat” campaign. The campaign challenges Ferrero fans to a four-week reading challenge, and those who complete the challenge on the StoryGraph app unlock a free Ferrero Rocher Dark Hazelnut and Crunchy Salted Caramel bar as a reward.

Ferrero takes North America

The new product launch is part of a broader strategy to turn Ferrero Rocher into a billion-dollar brand in North America. In addition to launching new products, adding premium bite-sized formats, and refreshing existing lines, the company set up a 45,000-square-foot R&D center in Chicago last year, where 150 employees set to work innovating and enhancing some of the most popular products on the brand’s roster, including Kinder, Crunch, and Butterfinger. Earlier this year, Ferrero invested $75 million into its first American processing facility – a 70,000-square-foot factory in Bloomington, Illinois. These investments follow a wave of strategic acquisitions over the past decade, including the purchase of Nestlé’s American candy business, which brought iconic brands such as Babe Ruth, Crunch Bar, and Butterfinger into the fold. Ferrero always brings the chocolate—and the surprises!
From Italy to the world
Ferrero Rocher began as a pastry shop in Alba, Italy. In 1938, Pietro Ferrero began experimenting to develop a cheaper alternative to the rare chocolate that was almost impossible to find during the war as a result of rationing. By combining toasted hazelnuts, cocoa, molasses, coconut butter and vegetable oil, Ferrero created a chocolatey hazelnut paste that was pressed into bricks and wrapped in wax paper. The chocolate-deprived Italian public loved it, and soon Pietro Ferrero, along with his brother, opened their first plant in 1946 to meet the skyrocketing demand.
With some adjustments, this original recipe would develop into Nutella, a worldwide phenomenon that marked the beginning of Ferrero Rocher’s global success. Today, over one-quarter of the world’s hazelnut crops are used to make Nutella.
As the post-war economy improved, Ferrero slowly raised the quality of their chocolate recipes as people began to be able to afford to pay more. In 1968, they introduced the Kinder line, with Tic Tac following a year later. In 1982, the company launched the product that would solidify their position as a global confectionary leader: the famous Ferrero Rocher praline.
The rest, as they say, is history. Ferrero now accounts for over 14.7% of the total chocolate confectionary industry revenue, with revenues up an astonishing 20% since last year.
