What caused the issue?

The recall was triggered by extraneous matter contamination, specifically pieces of wood found embedded in the batter coating the products. This type of contamination poses physical injury risks, including mouth injuries or choking hazards.

So far, five consumers have reported injuries, though no hospitalizations or deaths have been confirmed.

Those at greater risk include children and older adults, who may be more susceptible to injury from hard foreign materials. Anyone who suspects they’ve been affected should seek medical attention immediately.

Questions you might have

  1. How do I know if my product is affected?

  3. Can I still eat these if I don’t see wood pieces?

  4. What should I do with the recalled items?
Discard them or return them to the retailer for a refund.
  5. Were schools affected?
Products reached schools through commercial channels only, not USDA programs.
  6. How did the company find out?
Through consumer complaints, including one that caused an injury.
  7. Has the issue been corrected?
FSIS is conducting recall effectiveness checks to ensure all affected items are removed.
