What happened?

The FDA said Navitas Organics initiated the recall after discovering that its chia seed supplier had issued a recall for possible Salmonella contamination. The company told regulators it became aware of the issue during routine supplier communications and moved quickly to remove affected lots from circulation.

In its recall alert, the FDA warned that “Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.”

The recall applies to 8-ounce sealed stand-up pouches of Organic Chia Seeds with specific lot codes printed above the nutrition facts panel. Navitas Organics distributed the products nationwide through retail stores such as Whole Foods Market and online retailers including Amazon.
