New Hoque & Sons Inc. Recalls Hoque Dry Ghoinnya Fish Over Uneviscerated Product Risk

Nature Mills Recall 11zon

MASPETH, NY (October 29, 2025) — The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced that New Hoque & Sons Inc. is recalling its Hoque brand Dry Ghoinnya Fish after state inspectors found the product was uneviscerated, a violation linked to the risk of botulism poisoning. According to the FDA, the recall applies to nationwide retail distribution of the affected fish packages.

New Hoque & Sons recall: quick summary

The recall involves 10–12 pound clear plastic packages of Dry Ghoinnya Fish marked with an expiration date of May 19, 2025, and UPC 908172635412. The product was sold under the Hoque brand name and distributed to stores across the U.S.

Routine testing by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets (NYSDAM) revealed that the fish had not been properly eviscerated before processing: a serious regulatory breach because Clostridium botulinum spores can develop in uneviscerated fish.

No illnesses have been reported, but consumers are advised to return or dispose of the product immediately.

What happened?

The recall was initiated after NYSDAM Food Inspectors collected samples during routine surveillance and found that the Dry Ghoinnya Fish had not been properly eviscerated. The agency confirmed that uneviscerated fish can harbor Clostridium botulinum spores, which may cause life-threatening botulism if consumed.

According to the FDA recall alert, “People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to Clostridium botulinum toxins run the risk of a serious or life-threatening illness if they consume these products.”

What caused the issue?

According to the FDA notice, uneviscerated fish can contain Clostridium botulinum spores concentrated in the viscera. If not removed, these spores can lead to botulism, a rare but potentially fatal illness.

Symptoms include dizziness, blurred or double vision, difficulty speaking or swallowing, muscle weakness, and abdominal distension. In severe cases, botulism can cause paralysis or respiratory failure.

The FDA confirmed that no illnesses have been reported to date. However, elderly individuals, pregnant women, and people with weakened immune systems are most at risk.
