IRVINE, Calif. — The “New Year, New Me” mantra doesn’t apply to Taco Bell—they’re sticking to what works, but making it hotter. On Thursday, January 8, 2026, the chain officially unleashed the Volcano Quesarito, bringing a spicy evolution to its cult-favorite Lava Menu.
After teasing fans with the return of the standard Quesarito in December 2025, Taco Bell is now pivoting to heat for the new year. The launch centers around a reformulated ingredient: Volcano Sauce, described as the “protégé” of the legendary Lava Sauce.
The Volcano Quesarito
Priced at $4.99, the Volcano Quesarito is a mashup of two fan-favorite formats. It features seasoned beef, seasoned rice, and reduced-fat sour cream wrapped in a grilled quesadilla that is packed with melted cheese, Nacho Cheese sauce, and the all-new Volcano Sauce.
Luis Restrepo, Chief Marketing Officer at Taco Bell, emphasized the focus on sauce innovation in the press release.
Restrepo stated:
“We’re always pushing for new ways for our fans to experience the things they love about our menu. The Volcano Sauce is proof of how we continue to lead in sauce innovation, delivering bold, craveable experiences fans can only get from Taco Bell.”
The “Volcano Style” Menu
While the Quesarito is the headliner, the real news for frequent diners is the “Volcano Style” option. For a limited time, the new sauce can be added to any item, or purchased on the side.
Additionally, Taco Bell Rewards Members gain exclusive access to a curated digital menu in the app, applying the new sauce to five classic items:
- Volcano Crunchy Taco: A standard crunchy taco upgraded with Volcano Sauce.
- Volcano Crunchwrap®: The hexagonal icon stacked with beef, Nacho Cheese, sour cream, and the new spicy sauce.
- Volcano Cheesy G: A Cheesy Gordita Crunch variation featuring the Volcano Sauce.
- Volcano Steak Fries: Seasoned fries topped with steak, pico de gallo, and the dual threat of Nacho Cheese and Volcano Sauce.
- Volcano BellGrande®: A spicy take on the Nachos BellGrande.
While Taco Bell is kicking off 2026 by leaning into heat and nostalgia with its Volcano lineup, the brand’s early-year strategy extends beyond flavor innovation. In the days following the Volcano Quesarito’s return, Taco Bell is set to pivot toward affordability with the rollout of a new permanent Luxe Value Menu, signaling a parallel focus on price accessibility as consumers navigate post-holiday spending pressures.

Why It Matters
For CPG and fast-food analysts, this launch signals that “Spice” remains a dominant macro-trend for 2026. Taco Bell is effectively weaponizing nostalgia (the “Lava” legacy) while modernizing the flavor profile with a new proprietary sauce. By locking the broader “Volcano Style” menu behind the Rewards app, the brand is also continuing its aggressive push to drive digital adoption and first-party data collection. Contact Us!
