Brand | Product | Size | Lot code | Best by Date | Issue | Picture |
Orgain | 30g Plant Protein Complete Protein Powder – Chocolate | 2.01lb plastic tub | 4172-02-P | June 20, 2026 | Undeclared peanut residue |
What caused the issue?
The problem was reported by a consumer after consuming the product and having an allergic reaction. The company conducted an investigation and out of extreme caution issued the recall. The protein powder could potentially contain peanuts. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to peanuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume these products. This is one of the eight most common food allergens, and when it’s not disclosed on a product’s label, it can be a major problem. This is because some immune systems confuse certain proteins found in milk as harmful. Your body goes on full alert mode and it releases histamine and other chemicals that cause allergic signs and symptoms. Among the most common food allergens we can find:
- Cow’s milk (dairy)
- Egg
- Peanut
- Tree nuts
- Sesame
- Soy
- Fish
- Shellfish
- Wheat

Behind the brand
Their founder Andrew Abraham, M.D. created Orgain with one simple goal in mind — to put the power of good, clean nutrition in the hands of people everywhere. After beating cancer at an early age, he devoted himself to medicine. But his passion to find better nutrition inspired him to leave his practice to create foods and beverages based on the belief that real nutrition has the power to make a real difference in people’s lives. Today, his relentlessly high standards for nutrition, quality, and taste go into everything they create at Orgain.
Crazy enough, this week has been packed with undeclared allergens recalls: Frito-Lay, the snack giant known for its crispy, crunchy chips, issued a recall of Lay’s Classic Potato Chips 13 oz. bags this past December 16th. A mislabeling caused this issue: the bags may have contained undeclared milk. Also, Shoppers-Plaza, based in Los Angeles, California, issued a voluntary nationwide recall for its Fouzee SugarLin Herbal Formula capsules on December 16. The recall was prompted by the discovery of undeclared active pharmaceutical ingredients, Metformin and Glyburide, both commonly prescribed for managing type 2 diabetes.
Ensuring safe eats!
This recall raises an important question: How can the food industry better prevent such issues in the future? Here are some ways companies should act on matters like these:
- Tighter quality control: Peanut contamination can happen, but stringent processes should be in place to catch it.
- Clear labeling: Transparency with consumers is key. Any potential allergens, no matter how small, should be clearly declared.
- Swift action: When problems do arise, brands should act fast—Orgain did, and we commend them for that.
“Food safety is paramount in our industry, and incidents like this remind us how critical it is to ensure every step of the supply chain is carefully monitored, from ingredient sourcing to final product packaging. Even the smallest oversight, like undeclared allergens, can have serious consequences for consumers. As an industry, we must continuously improve transparency, strengthen quality control measures, and prioritize consumer well-being above all else. Trust is built on consistent safety and quality, and it’s our responsibility to uphold those standards every day.” Eran Mizrahi, Source86’ CEO.
