MIAMI — Burger King is introducing a limited-time, themed menu tied to the upcoming film Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu, with new items, collectible packaging, and a kids’ meal promotion rolling out nationwide. The menu arrives May 4 at participating U.S. locations, aligning with the franchise’s fan-driven “May the Fourth” celebration, and will be available while supplies last. The launch includes a themed Whopper, sides, a dessert shake, and bundled meal options designed to coincide with the movie’s theatrical debut on May 22.

At the start of the promotion, customers can order through BK.com, the brand’s mobile app, or in-store at participating restaurants.

Limited-time menu items and themed packaging

The collaboration introduces several new products, each tied to characters or themes from the film:

  • BBQ Bounty Whopper® featuring a ¼ lb. flame-grilled beef patty, Swiss cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and BBQ sauce
  • Grogu’s Blue Cookie Shake made with soft serve and blue cookie syrup
  • Grogu’s Garlic Chicken Fries seasoned with parmesan and garlic
  • Imperial Cheddar Ranch Tots filled with cheddar and seasoned with ranch

Customers can also unlock four collectible cups by purchasing select bundles, including the “Bounty Bundle” or combo meals tied to the featured items.

In addition, a King Jr.® Meal tied to the film will launch on April 28, including a toy inspired by the franchise, alongside standard kids’ meal components like nuggets or a hamburger, applesauce, fries, and a drink.

Marketing strategy tied to entertainment releases

According to the company, the campaign aligns with the film’s release window. It also aims to capitalize on fan engagement across generations.

In a statement, Joel Yashinsky, Chief Marketing Officer of Burger King U.S. & Canada, described the strategy behind the collaboration. He said the campaign brings the franchise’s cultural momentum into restaurants. It combines themed packaging with new menu offerings.

Jan Coleman, Vice President of Partnerships and Promotions at The Walt Disney Studios, also commented on the partnership. She said it reflects a broader effort to create shared experiences. These efforts are centered around major film releases. They also target audiences across multiple generations.

Why it matters

Entertainment tie-ins remain a core strategy in the quick-service restaurant (QSR) sector, particularly when aligned with major franchise releases. Partnerships like this allow brands to tap into built-in audiences, drive limited-time traffic, and create urgency through collectibles and seasonal exclusives.

This campaign also highlights the increasing importance of experiential packaging and bundled offerings in QSR marketing. Beyond the food itself, elements such as themed containers and collectible items are being used to deepen engagement and encourage repeat purchases.

For CPG and foodservice brands, this reflects a broader shift toward cross-industry collaborations, where entertainment, retail, and food intersect to create culturally relevant moments that drive both visibility and sales.

Editor’s note: Source86 perspective

For food manufacturers, suppliers, and private label brands, Burger King’s latest collaboration highlights the growing role of licensed partnerships. It also shows how limited-time innovation drives consumer engagement.

The use of themed packaging, product variation, and timed releases helps brands stand out. These strategies allow companies to tap into cultural moments. They can also increase demand in a crowded market.

At Source86, we support brands navigating these opportunities. Our services include ingredient sourcing, R&D, co-manufacturing, and retail-ready production.

We help ensure that limited-time launches are scalable. We also keep supply chains efficient.

Whether developing custom flavor profiles or managing bulk production for promotions, execution matters. Aligning operations with marketing strategy is key to successful collaborations. Let’s talk.
