Behind the brand
The cheese spread was produced by Glenview Farms, a company owned by US Foods Holding Corp, an American food service distributor founded in 1989. CIBUS Fresh stated that food safety remains a top priority for them and they have full confidence that all appropriate steps are being taken to protect consumers. They informed the FDA of this recall and are working with customers to ensure the impacted products are removed from store shelves and are no longer distributed.
We had a crazy week and we’re not only talking about the elections. This cheese recall is the second one in past few days. Sure, it’s different companies but what does that say about American food? Listeria this Listeria that, It’s like you can’t go grocery shopping without a potential risk. Lately, more and more outbreaks related to this particular bacteria are occurring. Take for example the recent Enoki Mushrooms case from HH Fresh Trading Corp. With so many processed foods on the shelves today, contamination like these keep popping up.
“We have an increasingly industrialized food industry producing products at a large scale for lower cost. When potential contamination is not prevented, identified, and controlled, it can lead to large-scale, multistate outbreaks of disease,” said Richard Martinello, MD, Yale Medicine infectious diseases doctor and professor of medicine at Yale School of Medicine, to Healthline.
