What happened?
On December 6th, F&S Fresh Foods recalled their Mediterranean Inspired Party Tray 22 oz because the tzatziki sauce used on it contains cucumbers from a batch that has been recalled by Sunfed Produce, LLC for Salmonella. F&S Fresh Foods was informed by their supplier, Grecian Delight, that the cucumbers used in the tzatziki sauce could potentially carry Salmonella. The company acted quickly and issued a voluntary recall for the affected trays. The trays were sold between November 27 and December 11, in Ralph’s stores in California and Smith’s stores across Arizona, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Utah, and Wyoming.
What caused the issue?
Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis, and arthritis. So far, no victims have been confirmed.

Ensuring safe eats!
This recall highlights the importance of safe food sourcing and testing. While the company acted quickly, it’s a good reminder that companies need to be vigilant in checking their ingredients before they go out the door. The food industry needs to be on high alert to avoid these kinds of issues, which can affect both the public’s health and their reputation. Recall preparedness is key, as is making sure consumers can easily identify affected products and take action quickly.
“Food safety is a responsibility that every player in the supply chain shares, from the farm to the table. This recent recall is a reminder that even the best intentions can be thwarted by unforeseen risks. It’s crucial that we remain vigilant, conduct thorough testing, and work closely with our suppliers to ensure that every ingredient we source meets the highest standards of quality and safety. The health and well-being of consumers must always be our top priority.” Eran Mizrahi, Source86’ CEO.
