What happened?
The FSIS issued a public health alert for ready-to-eat frozen chicken products by Maxi Canada Inc. Their Yummy Dino Buddies Holiday Nuggets didn’t get the benefit of the import reinspection. A recall wasn’t officially issued since the products are no longer available for purchase, although the FSIS is concerned that some products might be in people’s freezers. These items were shipped to one Costco retail location at 7095 Marketplace Dr, Goleta, California, 93117.
What caused the issue?
The problem was discovered by FSIS inspection personnel who determined that the products were not presented for import reinspection. There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. You might be thinking, “No FSIS reinspection? So what?” Well, FSIS reinspection is a big deal because it’s the USDA’s way of ensuring that food products meet safety and quality standards before they reach your dinner table. Without it, there’s a risk that these products might not be safe to eat.

Behind the brand
Maxi started as a family-owned business that was established in 1970. Over the years, it has evolved to become a leader in the processing and manufacturing of chicken products. Its factory is located in Saint-Lin-Laurentides, north of Montreal. Surprisingly, this is not the only health alert we’ve had this week. On December 2nd, the FSIS issued an alert for a Mortadela imported from Ecuador illegally. This posed a great risk to consumers since the country is not allowed to import to the US.
Ensuring safe eats!
This recall highlights the importance of maintaining strict safety protocols and ensuring that products undergo proper inspection before reaching consumers. Companies should work closely with food safety agencies like the FDA and FSIS to avoid lapses that can lead to recalls and, worse, health risks to consumers.
“As an ingredient supplier, our top priority is ensuring the safety and quality of the products that reach consumers’ tables. A single lapse in food safety, whether it’s a mislabeling issue or failure to meet inspection standards, can have a ripple effect across the entire industry. It’s a reminder that we must all remain vigilant in maintaining the highest standards because every meal shared with family should be one that’s safe and trusted.” Eran Mizrahi, Source86’ CEO.
