The Wendy’s Company (Nasdaq: WEN) announced on April 23, 2026 a seven-item spring menu launch hitting U.S. restaurants nationwide on April 27, 2026. The lineup splits across three flavor tracks: a new core menu dessert item, a watermelon beverage platform, and a jalapeño spice platform available for a limited time. Wendy’s Loyalty Members can access the Cookie Dough Frosty Fusion early via the Wendy’s app starting today, April 23, through Sunday April 26. Lindsay Radkoski, Chief Marketing Officer at Wendy’s, is the company spokesperson. Wendy’s is headquartered in Dublin, Ohio, and operates more than 7,000 restaurants worldwide, founded in 1969.

No end date is disclosed for the jalapeño or watermelon items beyond “limited time.”

The Full Seven-Item Lineup

The spring launch is the broadest single seasonal drop Wendy’s has announced in recent coverage. It spans four beverage items and three food items, covering breakfast and lunch/dinner dayparts simultaneously, and introduces one new permanent core menu item alongside six LTOs.

Cookie Dough Frosty Fusion is the headline item and the only permanent addition. It joins the core Wendy’s menu. The product features cookie dough pieces and brownie batter sauce swirled into the Frosty base. This is the first Frosty Fusion format, a product architecture that distinguishes it from a standard Frosty by adding solid inclusions and a sauce swirl to the base. The Frosty base itself is Wendy’s longest-standing signature menu item and its most broadly recognized brand equity asset. Adding a Frosty Fusion as a permanent format represents a structural extension of the Frosty platform rather than a seasonal LTO.

Watermelon Lemonade is positioned as an extension of Wendy’s Dave’s Craft Lemonade lineup, featuring a sweet watermelon puree blended with Wendy’s all-natural lemonade base. The “all-natural lemonade” descriptor signals a real lemon juice or lemon concentrate base rather than a citric acid-based artificial lemonade system.

Watermelon Sparkling Energy is a bubbly energy beverage with notes of fresh fruit and candied watermelon, containing 80 to 120 mg of caffeine per serving. This is Wendy’s first energy drink format in recent covered announcements, sitting in the growing QSR beverages-with-functional-benefits space that has accelerated across Taco Bell, McDonald’s, and others since 2024.

Sprite Watermelon is a co-branded Coca-Cola Sprite variant with watermelon flavoring. Sprite is a registered trademark of The Coca-Cola Company. Wendy’s pours Coca-Cola branded beverages exclusively through its QSR beverage contract, and the Sprite Watermelon SKU is a Coca-Cola product served through Wendy’s fountain system.

Jalapeño Ranch Cheeseburger pairs Wendy’s fresh, never frozen beef with creamy jalapeño ranch, jalapeño slices, and melted American cheese. Fresh beef is available in the contiguous U.S. and Alaska, as well as Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, the U.K., and other select international markets.

Jalapeño Bacon Breakfast Potatoes add jalapeños to Wendy’s seasoned breakfast potatoes alongside three strips of Applewood smoked bacon and Swiss cheese sauce.

Jalapeño Breakfast Biscuit features jalapeños, a choice of sausage or bacon, a fresh-cracked grade A egg, and American cheese on a buttery biscuit.

Two Strategic Themes: Nostalgia Meets Functional Trend

The Cookie Dough Frosty Fusion and the watermelon beverage platform are both executing against trends the Source86 editorial team has tracked across multiple sessions. Cookie dough as a CPG and QSR flavor has been in sustained demand since 2023, rooted in the nostalgia economy. It performs because it recalls childhood food memories with zero preparation barrier: you get the association of eating cookie dough raw, delivered in a format that is safe and familiar. Brownie batter sauce extends that nostalgia logic in a second direction within the same product, stacking two nostalgic dessert references into a single Frosty Fusion serving.

The watermelon platform is the most concentrated seasonal watermelon play we have seen from a single QSR brand in a single launch window. Three watermelon beverage variants in one announcement, covering lemonade, sparkling energy, and a Sprite co-brand, is not incremental innovation. It is Wendy’s betting that watermelon is the dominant summer beverage flavor for 2026 and building a full watermelon beverage menu to capture the entire segment rather than splitting it with a single SKU.

That bet is well-supported by the CPG data landscape. Watermelon is one of the fastest-growing flavor applications in U.S. beverages and snacks. McCormick’s 2026 Flavor of the Year naming of Black Currant reflects a broader pattern of summer and fruit-forward flavor demand. Watermelon specifically has benefited from its association with clean, fresh, and naturally sweet flavor profiles in a consumer environment increasingly skeptical of artificial flavor systems.

The Jalapeño Platform and Wendy’s Spice Strategy

The three jalapeño items hit two dayparts simultaneously: the Jalapeño Ranch Cheeseburger is a lunch and dinner entry, while the Jalapeño Bacon Breakfast Potatoes and Jalapeño Breakfast Biscuit expand the spice platform into breakfast. That breakfast spice entry is notable because Wendy’s breakfast has been an active battleground with McDonald’s and Taco Bell since Wendy’s relaunched breakfast in 2020, and adding a spice differentiator within breakfast is a direct answer to Taco Bell’s sustained hold on the spicy breakfast occasion.

The jalapeño ranch construction on the cheeseburger is a deliberate “swicy” read similar to what Chipotle executed with Chipotle Honey Chicken. Here the balance is reversed: heat leads, cool ranch moderates. The jalapeño slices provide fresh pepper heat alongside whatever jalapeño flavor compound drives the ranch, and the American cheese delivers a mild, creamy counterpoint. The Applewood smoked bacon on the Breakfast Potatoes adds a smoke note that enhances the jalapeño heat by grounding it in a savory protein context rather than a neutral starch base.

The side-by-side release of Wendy’s Spicy Chicken Sandwich upgrade (visible in the press release sidebar, announced just weeks prior) and now three jalapeño items confirms that Wendy’s 2026 brand direction explicitly leans into spice as a competitive differentiator. No other QSR brand at Wendy’s scale has announced as many spice-forward items in as short a period in 2026.

Why It Matters for Watermelon, Jalapeño, Cookie Dough, and Dairy Ingredient Suppliers

Wendy’s seven-item spring launch creates simultaneous demand across watermelon flavor compound and puree systems for three distinct QSR beverage applications (lemonade, sparkling energy, and Sprite fountain blend), fresh jalapeño pepper and jalapeño-derived flavoring systems for three menu items across two dayparts, cookie dough piece inclusions and brownie batter sauce systems for a permanent core Frosty Fusion format, and the dairy and dessert base ingredients that support the Frosty platform’s extension into solid-inclusion formats. The breadth of this simultaneous launch across flavor tracks and dayparts requires procurement planning across at least four distinct ingredient categories in the same seasonal window at Wendy’s 7,000-plus restaurant scale.

The watermelon puree input for the Watermelon Lemonade specifically requires a fruit-forward, clean-label watermelon puree or concentrate that performs within Wendy’s all-natural lemonade base without artificial flavor augmentation, producing a consumer-perceptible watermelon flavor that reads as fresh rather than candy-like. Watermelon purees for QSR application must be produced at Brix levels appropriate for fountain and beverage blending dilution, with color stability under refrigeration and consistent flavor intensity across sourcing batches. For watermelon puree and concentrate suppliers serving QSR beverage programs, Wendy’s three-SKU watermelon platform is a concentrated seasonal demand event at one of the top three burger QSR chains in the U.S.

The Applewood smoked bacon requirement on the Jalapeño Bacon Breakfast Potatoes adds a specific wood-smoke processed pork input to Wendy’s existing breakfast bacon procurement program, specifying Applewood smoke flavor rather than generic hickory or mesquite. Applewood smoked bacon requires pork belly inputs processed under Applewood smoke or Applewood smoke flavoring systems that deliver a lighter, sweeter smoke character compared to hickory. For Applewood smoked bacon suppliers and processed pork distributors serving Wendy’s breakfast protein program, the Jalapeño Bacon Breakfast Potatoes creates an additive demand signal during the LTO window for the Applewood specification.

The Cookie Dough Frosty Fusion’s permanent core menu status, rather than LTO positioning, creates a sustained ongoing procurement requirement for cookie dough inclusion pieces and brownie batter sauce at Wendy’s full system volume rather than a time-limited LTO volume. Cookie dough inclusions for a dairy frozen dessert application must be formulated to maintain textural integrity (a characteristic chew and softness) at the low temperatures of the Frosty base without becoming excessively hard or crumbling. The brownie batter sauce must remain pourable and blendable at Frosty service temperatures while delivering the characteristic batter flavor without the texture of a baked brownie. For bakery inclusion manufacturers and dessert sauce suppliers serving QSR frozen dessert programs, Wendy’s permanent Frosty Fusion SKU represents a sustained, indefinitely renewable procurement contract rather than a finite seasonal window.
