MIAMI — While other fast-food giants are leaning into comfort food this January, Subway is doubling down on value and protein. On Wednesday, January 7, 2026, the sandwich chain unveiled its “Resolution-Ready” lineup, a dual-pronged strategy featuring a new grab-and-go product line and the return of a nostalgic daily deal.
Effective January 8, Subway is introducing Protein Pockets—a new toasted wrap format priced at $3.99—and reviving the 6-inch Sub of the Day program for $4.99, positioning the brand aggressively against the rising cost of fast-casual lunches.
The $3.99 Protein Pocket
The headline innovation is the Protein Pocket, a product designed to bridge the gap between a snack and a meal. Each pocket features a soft wheat tortilla filled with over 20 grams of protein, hand-chopped veggies, and sauce.
The launch includes four variations:
- Baja Chicken: Grilled chicken, Monterey cheddar, and the brand’s signature smoky Baja Chipotle sauce.
- Peppercorn Ranch Chicken: Grilled chicken paired with pickles and zesty Peppercorn Ranch.
- Italian Trio: A meat-heavy option with Black Forest ham, pepperoni, and Genoa salami.
- Turkey & Ham: A classic combination with oven-roasted turkey and Black Forest ham.
Dave Skena, Chief Marketing Officer for North America, framed the launch as a direct response to consumer demand for affordable nutrition.
Skena stated:
“Getting more protein in their diet is important to so many people. But all too often that protein is expensive or fried. With Subway’s new Protein Pockets, they can get over 20 grams of protein for $3.99 without sacrificing taste.”
The Return of “Sub of the Day”
For long-time fans, the bigger news might be the return of the Sub of the Day. This rotating daily schedule offers a specific 6-inch sub for $4.99, a price point that harkens back to the brand’s “Five Dollar Footlong” glory days (albeit for a smaller portion).
The schedule for 2026 is:
- Monday: Meatball Marinara
- Tuesday: Classic Tuna
- Wednesday: Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki
- Thursday: Oven-Roasted Turkey
- Friday: Black Forest Ham
- Saturday: Italian B.M.T.
- Sunday: Spicy Italian
Customers can also upgrade this to a meal (adding a drink and chips or cookies) for an additional $2.

Why It Matters
For CPG and QSR analysts, Subway’s strategy is clear: volume. By introducing a sub-$4 entry point with the Protein Pockets, Subway is effectively competing not just with other sandwich shops, but with convenience stores (like 7-Eleven’s new waffle sandwich) and grocery store grab-and-go sections. The “Sub of the Day” revival also serves as a habit-building mechanism, training customers to return on specific days for their favorite discounted item. Contact Us!
