What happened?

According to the FDA, Africa Imports initiated the recall after learning that certain lots of its Organic Moringa Leaf Powder tested positive for Salmonella. The company said it was notified of the contamination through internal testing and immediately suspended distribution.

The recall, issued on November 12, 2025, affects all 1-kilogram boxes of Organic Moringa Leaf Powder purchased after June 5, 2025. The affected products were sold exclusively through Africa Imports and shipped to customers across the United States.

In its alert, the FDA warned that “people infected with Salmonella may experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.” The agency added that in severe cases, the infection can spread to the bloodstream and cause more serious conditions.

Other relevant recalls

This incident follows several Salmonella-related recalls across the health and supplement sector this year, including recalls of organic turmeric powder, herbal teas, and superfood blends. Other companies, such as Vanguard Enterprises, Pacific International Marketing, Food To Live, and Kenz Henz, have also issued recalls linked to Salmonella contamination in recent months, underscoring the ongoing challenges of preventing bacterial contamination in natural and minimally processed products.

“Although generally perceived as safe from pathogenic concerns, consumer illnesses caused by the survival of Salmonella and other pathogens in low-moisture foods have raised food safety concerns.” — from Validating the Reduction of Salmonella and Other Pathogens in Heat Processed Low-Moisture Foods, University of California-Davis.

Eran Mizrahi, CEO of Source86, noted that

“Food safety isn’t just about compliance; it’s about trust. Every recall reminds us how vital transparency and supplier accountability are in protecting consumers.”

Ensuring safe eats

This recall underscores the importance of rigorous product testing and supplier oversight in the natural foods industry. While no illnesses have been reported, it serves as a reminder for consumers to stay informed and for companies to maintain strict quality control.

At Source86, we help food brands strengthen their supply chains, ensure FSQA compliance, and uphold consumer trust because when recalls happen, preparedness makes all the difference. Let’s talk.
