Behind the brand
Abbey Specialty Foods is a family-owned business founded in 1999. They are an importer and distributor of specialty cheese and other specialty perishable products from around the world. The success of Abbey Specialty Foods comes from their focus on importing from small dairies producing unique and flavorful cheeses in small batches and big flavors.
This marks the first Listeria case of the year but, unfortunately, last month there were several cases. On December 27, 2024, the California-based company Braga Fresh voluntarily recalled their 12oz Marketside Broccoli Florets, sold exclusively at Walmart. And, on December 11, 2024, New Age International Inc, the company behind Daily Veggies, issued a recall after testing by the Maryland Department of Health Laboratories revealed that samples of their Enoki Mushrooms contained Listeria monocytogenes.
Ensuring safe eats!
While this recall might seem a bit frightening, it’s actually part of a well-regulated food safety system. Companies like Abbey Specialty Foods act quickly to minimize potential health risks, and the FDA works closely with them to make sure products that could pose a danger are swiftly removed from shelves. It’s also a reminder that food safety is crucial—and consumers need to stay vigilant.
“Food safety is a shared responsibility across the entire supply chain, from producers to distributors to consumers. Recalls like these serve as an important reminder that we must remain vigilant at every step to ensure the products we bring to market are safe for consumption. At the end of the day, consumers trust the products they purchase, and it’s up to all of us to uphold that trust by prioritizing quality and transparency in every ingredient and finished product we handle.” Eran Mizrahi, CEO of Source 86.
