Production & Sourcing
Source86 sources Coconut Cream from established processing operations across Sri Lanka, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Thailand — the four countries that account for the majority of global commercial coconut cream production. The Philippines and Sri Lanka are historical leaders in coconut cream and milk processing for international food manufacturing, while Indonesia has gained a meaningful share in recent years. This multi-origin sourcing model supports consistent supply, continuity of organic certification, and resilience to regional disruptions.

Production process
- Harvesting. Mature coconuts are harvested from coconut palms (Cocos nucifera), typically grown in coastal tropical regions with high humidity and consistent rainfall.
- Dehusking and splitting. Outer husks are removed and coconuts are split to expose the kernel (the white meat) inside.
- Kernel extraction and grating. The kernel is separated from the shell, washed, and mechanically grated into a fine pulp.
- Pressing and extraction. The grated kernel is pressed to express the natural cream, a thick, fat-rich liquid. First-press cream contains the highest fat content; subsequent presses yield lower-fat coconut milk.
- Standardization, packaging, and aseptic processing. The cream is filtered, standardized to target fat content (24% or 30%, with or without stabilizers), heat-treated for microbiological control, and packed into aseptic bag-in-box (20 kg) or aseptic bag-in-drum (200 kg) formats for shelf-stable distribution.
Market Context
The global coconut cream market is concentrated in Southeast Asia and South Asia. The Philippines and Sri Lanka have historically led commercial coconut cream and milk processing for international food manufacturing, while Indonesia and Thailand are significant producers and have expanded share in recent years.
Standard commercial packaging. Coconut cream for food manufacturing is supplied in aseptic bag-in-box formats (typically 20 kg) for medium-scale users, and aseptic bag-in-drum formats (200 kg) for high-volume manufacturing programs. Aseptic processing allows ambient storage and extended shelf life without refrigeration during transit and warehousing.
Harvest cycle and supply considerations. Coconuts are harvested year-round in producing regions, but yields and pricing fluctuate with regional weather patterns — particularly typhoons in the Philippines and monsoon variability across Southeast Asia. Source86’s multi-origin sourcing model is designed to absorb regional volatility and maintain continuity of supply for buyers running annual or multi-year programs.
